Position Descriptions

veterinarian

The primary role of the veterinarian is to provide the highest level of professional veterinary services.  This is in accordance with the policies and procedures of the clinic and rules and regulations of the veterinary profession including the ABVMA & CVMA. 
Responsibilities include:
  • Providing quality patient care in an ethical and professional manner
  • Routine and emergency physical examinations and diagnostics
  • Diagnosing disease or abnormal conditions while consider the best treatment for the animal
  • Performing treatments including inoculation, surgery, caring for wounds, and dental and obstetrical services
  • Maintaining accurate medical records on a timely basis
  • Providing client education while fostering client and patient relationships
  • Participate in continuing education seminars/sessions and projecting a positive practice image
The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude and excellent communication skills.  Dog & Cat Hospital Ltd. emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and the highest standards in service. 
Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in Alberta

Registered veterinary Technician  (RVT)

The primary role of the AHT/animal nurse is to provide quality patient care through a team approach with veterinarians and all staff.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring patients are provided with the utmost professional care
  • Handling and restraining animals
  • Monitoring and assisting with patients
  • Preparing examination/operating rooms
  • Completing pre-examination procedures, preparing and administering medication and treatment
  • Performing procedures requested by the veterinarian – diagnostic laboratory procedures, routine dental cleanings and catheterizations
  • Reception and client education
The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, be able to work in a team based environment and be able to provide our clients with an exceptional experience while in our hospital.
Registered with, or eligible to register with the AAAHT

Veterinary Technician Assistant

The primary role of the veterinary medical assistant is to assist the veterinarian or technician with the general care of the animals, help maintain regular clinic maintenance, and occasional reception duties. 
Additional responsibilities include
  • Assisting with basic handling of patients
  • Assisting with surgical preparation under the 
    direct supervision of a veterinarian or technician
  • Observing the patients’ general wellbeing/physical condition and report any concerns to the veterinarian or technician immediately
  • Ensuring food and water is given to patients and recorded as required
  • Walking dogs
  • Clinic maintenance
  • Following clinic policies and procedures.
VTA certification preferred but not mandatory.

Veterinary Medical Receptionist

The veterinary medical receptionist is often the first impression of our hospitals and our team.  The primary role of the receptionist is to support a professional and welcoming environment by greeting clients, directing telephone and client inquires, following admission procedures for patients and performing clerical duties. 
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Confirming day opening check lists are complete
  • Ensuring client and patient information is accurate
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Organization and cleanliness of the reception area including all nutrition and retail
  • Following clinic policies and procedures
The successful candidate will possess above average customer service relations and be able to help provide our clients with an exceptional experience while in our hospital.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team based environment are essential. 
VMR certification or minimum 1 year previous office experience required.
